"Perseids" Shot on August 11, 2012 during the height of the Perseid meteor showers looking north at the south face of Mt. Rainier. This approximately 31/2 hour exposure clearly shows at least 3 meteor traces: 2 right above the mountain and another next to the tree on the right. The North Star is the bright one in the center and the other stars are part of the Little and Big Dippers. Note the trail of light on the right shoulder of the mountain, showing the lamps of hikers attempting to summit that morning and who have left Camp Muir at about 2 am. The incredible resolution of the Nikon D3X clearly shows the different colors of the star trails, indicating the relative temperatures of their nuclear fires: white being the hottest, blue and pink cooler.
